Berenklauw - Acanthus mollis

Ook wel bekend als de berenklauw, niet te verwarren met de in het wild groeiende berenklauw. Deze tuinplanten zijn familie van de Acanthaceae. De prachtige opgaande bloemen zijn lilaroze en bloeien ca. juli tot en met augustus. De bladeren zijn donkergroen en ongeveer 70 cm groot De volwassen hoogte van deze vaste plant is ca. 120 cm. Deze tuinplanten zijn winterhard tot een temperatuur van -10 graden Celsius.

Aanplanting

Deze plant is zeer geschikt voor 'de tuin op het zuiden'. Verlangt een zonnige, warme plek op niet te arme grond en buiten de schaduwzone van bomen en heesters. Ze kan gebruikt worden als borderplant, want ze laat zich eenvoudig combineren. Deze plant heeft in de winter bescherming nodig tegen overvloedige regen en sneeuw. In de zomer moet u ervoor waken dat ze niet uitdroogt. Het is een opvallende plant, die ook als solitair te gebruiken is.
